While hiking in the mountains can provide you with gorgeous views and accessible trails and paths, if you're looking to take your mountain hikes to the next level, then heli-hiking might be the perfect activity for you! Not only does heli-hiking provide you with access to trails and gorgeous alpine lakes that would be otherwise inaccessible by foot but getting to experience the stunning Monashee Mountains from the sky is a breathtaking experience.

There are some things to be prepared for when it comes to heli-hiking, which is why we've taken the time to put together a list of what you need to know before embarking on a heli-hiking adventure!

Approach your first heli-hiking experience with an open mind and don't forget to have fun! Our experienced team of guides will be there to help you every step of the way, so you can relax and enjoy the stunning views of the Monashee Mountains! You'll make memories on your heli-hiking adventure that you'll be sharing for years to come!

Pack The Right Equipment

Making sure that you're prepared with the right equipment is essential for any hike, but it's especially important when heli-hiking. You'll be visiting hiking locations and following trails that see very little regular foot traffic, so having the right gear is crucial. Here are a few key pieces of equipment that you'll want to prepare for heli-hiking:

  • Sturdy Hiking Boots
  • Lots of Layers
  • Rain Jacket
  • Sunscreen
  • Binoculars
  • Hat

The weather can change in an instant so it's important to not only pack a breathable rain jacket but wear layers as well. Layers will allow you to add or remove items as needed to regulate your body temperature. A hat can also be beneficial for helping keep the sun (or rain) off of your face, and sturdy hiking boots are a must, but make sure you break them in beforehand! Water and snacks will be provided for your hike and bringing a pair of binoculars is a must for spotting wildlife at a distance!

Be Wary of Wildlife

Anytime you wander into nature you are faced with the possibility of encountering wildlife. While it can be exciting to see different birds and animals in the wild, it's important to remember that they are still wild animals and it's important to give them their space. Our guides are here to look after your safety, which leaves you to enjoy the gorgeous scenery and all the incredible wildlife that calls the stunning Monashee Mountains home!

Take Photos, Not Souvenirs

We all know that the mountains are beautiful and are home to a wide variety of both flora and fauna. One of the most important things to remember when heli-hiking is that, while it might be nice to pick a small bouquet of wildflowers or bring home a souvenir of some sort that you find during your hike, removing those items from the mountains means disrupting a habitat. So instead of gathering items to bring home with you, choose to take photos of the different landscapes and features you encounter. Those photos are going to last a lifetime and will allow you to look back and reflect on your mountain adventures without having to disturb the landscape itself.

Heli-hiking is a truly one-of-a-kind experience that provides you with the opportunity to travel the trail-less-travelled – literally! Hopefully, this blog post has helped prepare you for your next heli-hiking adventure!
